The Metchosin Flu Clinic was our most successful and well attended clinic to date! Together we accomplished the vaccination of over 700 people, nearly double what we did last year.

  • 60%  were 65 years of age and older (10% increase from 2019)
  • 20% between the ages of 51 – 64
  • 10% between ages 36 – 50
  • 4% between 19 – 35
  • 6% between 5 – 18

People coming to the clinic were appreciative and congratulatory on how smoothly everything ran. One woman commented that it was the most pleasant vaccination experience she had ever had, and another commented that it took only “half an hour from line-up to chocolate.”

The clinic was not without excitement. A young girl fainted following her vaccination. She was well attended by one of our volunteers who happens to be an immunology and allergy nurse, the Fire Chief, the pharmacist, and  paramedics. Thankfully it wasn’t long before she was smiling and back on her feet. In the midst of all of this a tiny dog rushed into the vaccination room, but was quickly scooped up and safely returned to his owner. Only in Metchosin!

On behalf of Metchosin Fire Chief, Stephanie Dunlop, IDA Latoria Pharmacy pharmacist, Mohamed Zeid, and the Metchosin Seniors’ Association, we thank the many volunteers for all you did  – from greeting warmly and sanitizing hands; to keeping consent forms, numbers and pencils, in order and clean; to vaccinating patiently and efficiently; to careful data compilation; and lastly  making the observation area inviting and engaging – we couldn’t have done it without you. We look forward to doing it all again next year. In the meantime, keep safe and well.
